Since the outcome of a legal case has a lot to do with how similar cases were handled in the past, it is critical to have a professional research assistant available to comb through historical cases and identify similarities. There are platforms utilized by law firms to make this process easier, but it is still how much of the billable hours are accrued. At the Legal Staff School we familiarize you with these platforms (such as Lexus Nexus and Martindale Hubble), as well as more traditional means to finding precedent cases.
Many areas of law are research heavy, and those offices will typically staff several legal assistants and paralegals to take as much of this work off of the attorneys desk as possible. The most valuable assistants can find relevant information and provide it to their team in the most helpful ways.
