The Legal Administrative Assistant (LAA) course of instruction prepares individuals for entry-level jobs as a Legal Administrative Assistant. Graduates may find suitable employment at general legal practices, Statement Government, Local Government, Insurance Carriers, and Employment Services to name a few. LAA’s will often be required to prepare legal documents, organize and maintain the legal files kept on-site, and/or electronic-filing databases, as well as provide direct assistance to lawyers by researching cases, gathering all necessary documents for trials, and submitting paperwork to courthouses. LAA duties may also include answering and making calls, scheduling appointments, taking notes, and maintaining the firms’ legal research references. A strong understanding of legal terminology, industry related practice and applications are required.
The LAA course focuses solely on the fundamental skills and knowledge required to work in a legal setting. Students complete hands on training with computers to help better prepare them for workplace entry. The students will learn substantive and procedural areas of law and be able to apply this knowledge.
The program objectives for the students in the LAA course are to develop a familiar knowledge of a variety of legal topics, and to use the course materials, quizzes, discussion questions, review questions, writing prompts, essay questions, and case studies to close any knowledge gaps that the students may have regarding legal issues.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will earn a Certificate of Completion and a Letter of Recommendation. The average Legal Administrative Assistant salary is about $35,330 per year, and job opportunities are estimated to grow at a rate of 12% according to the United States Department of Labor.
